Monday, 13 August 2007

The heats of the men's 100 metres proved that age is no barrier to running fast when Fiji's Jone Delai took out the first heat in a time 0f 10.52. Delai was too good for New Zealand's James Dolphin and Chris Donaldson.

In the women's heats Sally McLellan was too good in a time of 11.46. Mae Koime was second in a time of 11.71 and will go through to the final of the Melanesian Championship event as a firm favourite.

Makelesi Bulikiobo, Fiji, was back to her best with a sizzling run in the women's 400 metres. In a race that saw Makelesi win by more than 50 metres she was never troubled. With a personal best of 51.89 she is on track for great performances in both Osaka and Apia.
