Some very good performances from the team from Tonga saw them win 8 Golds and 5 Silvers to lead the medal table after day 1.
The Polynesian Championships are being conducted with the Cook Island National Championships are are being contested by teams from the American Samoa, Cook Islands, Samoa Tahiti and Tonga. All visiting Federations have a quota of 8 athletes and one official while the host federation has a team of more than 20 athletes competing.
Tonga took the lead on the first day with a total of eight Gold medals and 5 Silver medals, a total which included the gold in the mixed medley relay.
