The Polynesian Regional Championships wound up yesterday in Rarotonga and it was Tonga who stamped their dominance on the event. With 11 Gold, 7 Silver and 1 Bronze Medals they were the outstanding Federation of the Under 19 Championships.
The organization, with totally local officials worked well with Rob Graham heading up the officials as Competition Manager, David Lobb as Competition Director and Ake Hosea was Competition Marshall. Others who filled key roles were Harmon Pou, Siniva Marsters, Anau Manarangi, Maki Toko, Harry Ivaiti, John and Margaret Teiti. They were ably supported by a good group of others as timekeepers, recorders and field judges.
Cook Islands should be congratulated for their persistence in ensuring that the Oceania Technical Officials' Course has been utilized enabling the Federation to field such a strong group of local officials.
There were some very good performances especially by the Tongan sprinters, the Samoan and Tahitian middle distance runners and the Cook Island throwers.
