Mowen Boino continued his remarkable record of improving the PNG national 400m hurdle record in major meets as he sliced over half a second off his personal best time to set a new south pacific best ever time of 50.37 seconds.
It was the second national record in two days for
PNG after Mae Koime broke the womens 100m record for the 8th time in her career last night.Competing in the semi final, Koime clocked 11.71 seconds to slice 0.08 off her old record.
Competing in heat three,Boino started conservatively and
finished very strongly to run a down Ian Weakley of Jamaica
and grab third place and gain an automatic place in the semi final. He first set the national record with a time of 51.3 seconds at the Sydney Olympics,improved to 51.05 at the Manchester Commonwealth Games and then ran 50.97 at the Athens Olympics.
