Friday, 16 March 2007

The Northern Mariana Athletics Association has named a date for the 2008 Oceania Under 18 and Open Championships. The Championship dates will be 26-28 June 2008 and the Championships will be held in the capital Saipan.

The Saipan facility hosts an eight lane synthetic track with long/triple jump pits close to the crowds that are sure to pack the stands in Saipan. In addition there is a hammer/discus cage that has already seen international competition at the Micronesian Games (2006) and Micronesian Sub-Regional Games (2005).

Although no final decision has been made on the 2008 Grand Prix Series, Guam has already shown an interest in conducting the first two meets at Leo Palace, Agana. A final decision will be made on this by the Oceania Athletics Association Council later in 2007.

Oceania Athletics Association is excited to be taking the Championships to the Northern Mariana Islands in 2008.
